Treatments - Invitro FertilisationA.R.T Procedures Assisted Reproductive Technology (A.R.T) now provides hope for many infertile couples who previously could not be treated. Basically, the aim of A.R.T treatment (which includes IVF) is to stimulate the ovaries to produce several follicles so that more than one egg can be retrieved during egg pick-up, thus increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy. With standard IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) the eggs are collected and placed in special culture medium. Prepared sperm is added and then fertilisation is assessed. The resultant embryos are transferred into the woman's uterus approximately 2 days after the egg pick-up. This is the most common procedure. |
