About Us
Wesley IVF Services - Wesley Hospital
The Wesley IVF Service was established at the Wesley Hospital in 1988
by the current clinical director, Dr John Allan and joined with Monash
IVF to form Wesley Monash IVF in October 2004.
In July 2008 The Wesley IVF clinic celebrated 20 years of IVF. More than
750 Mum's, Dad's and children joined past and present staff and
clinicians to help celebrate this milestone achievement at a party held
at the Alma Park Zoo. The weather on the day was glorious - matched only
by the hundreds of smiles on the children's faces!!
The Wesley Monash IVF Service is a department within the Wesley Hospital,
which is the largest private hospital in Queensland and a tertiary referral
campus catering for all the needs of patients and visitors. The Wesley
Monash IVF Service is committed to the provision of a personalised caring
service based on sound scientific principles and the practise of responsible
assisted reproductive technology.
PREGNANCY OUTCOME
Wesley Monash IVF pregnancy rates are consistently above the national
average supplied by the National Perinatal Statistics Unit for
Australian ART units. The clinical pregnancy rate for 2006 is 49.2% for
the patient group under 35 years (NPSU accepted standard of reference).
This excellent outcome has still been achieved by the average transfer of only 1.68
embryos, therefore significantly reducing the risks of miscarriage and
the ongoing complications associated with birth.
LOCATION
Consultations, investigations and treatments are conveniently conducted
on the campus of The Wesley Hospital.
The Wesley IVF Service is located near the main foyer of the Wesley Hospital
and comprises administration, operating theatre and laboratory facilities.
Egg retrievals, gamete/embryo transfers and testicular aspirations are
performed in the designated I.V.F theatre adjacent to the IVF laboratory,
which consists of both Andrology and Embryology sections.
Patients are usually accommodated as day patients within the unit and
overnight stays in the Gynaecology ward of the Wesley Hospital.
The Wesley Lodge provides convenient low-cost accommodation for country
patients. Telephone: (07) 33772177.
REFERRAL
If unable to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months, couples are advised
to consult their GP for a referral to one of our fertility specialists.
Couples undergo appropriate investigations to provide a customised treatment
plan.
To access our services you must be referred to one of our Fertility Specialists
by a general practitioner, specialist or consultant physician. The type
of referral affects the Medicare rebate and your out-of-pocket expenses.
Referrals from a specialist or consultant physician are only valid for
three (3) months. At the end of this three-month period your out-of-pocket
costs will increase unless you provide a further updated referral.
Referrals from general practitioners may cover any period of time. We
suggest that you obtain a referral from your GP to your Wesley Monash
IVF Fertility Specialist and have it marked Indefinite. Referrals
marked in this way will last a lifetime.
It is in your interests to check your referral details in light of this
information.
Your referral should:
- be on behalf of both partners;
- specify the name, address and provider number of the doctor writing
the referral;
- be dated before day one (start of period) of the female partners
menstrual cycle prior to treatment;
- specify the length of coverage of referral, e.g. indefinite, 12 months,
or 3 months.
RESEARCH
Clinical research is also a priority which ensures our patients obtain
optimum treatment with the latest technologies.
Research outcomes are submitted for peer review to national and international
conferences and journals.
ACCREDITATION & QUALITY ASSURANCE
All Assisted Reproductive Technology Units in Australia undergo accreditation
every 3 years with R.T.A.C. (Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee)
to ensure that clinical and ethical guidelines are being practised.
RTAC was established by the Fertility Society of Australia in 1987 to
monitor assisted reproductive technology treatments in IVF units in Australia
and New Zealand. It has formulated guidelines in accordance with those
of NHMRC (National Health and Medical Research Council) and these guidelines
relate to all areas of clinical practice including provision of patient
information, consent forms, counselling services, quality assurance, record
keeping, storage of gametes and embryos, laboratory procedures and research.
All units must undergo regular review by RTAC and ongoing accreditation
is based on compliance with RTAC guidelines. Clinical scientific details
and pregnancy outcomes of all treatment cycles must be submitted regularly
to N.P.S.U.(National Perinatal Statistics Unit).
